Since several people are looking for specific prices on inexpensive kits, I will start this thread with a good source for slimline kits.
Ryan @ www.woodturningz.com sells gold, black, and satin silver slimline kits for $1.70 ea. They are good guys to deal with.
Bill Baumbeck of www.arizonasilhouette.com always sells CUSA 24k gold slimline kits for $1.99 ea.
This should get the list going and others can add to it.
I have no interest in these companies other than being an extremely satisfied customer
