This is my first one piece bowl and my first segmented hollow form.

I have been trying for 2 years to get a bowl to turn out. I have had a series of unfortunate events. I have been doing a lot better on segmented stuff. The bowl is spalted hard maple and is 11"x4". The vase is mahogany, walnut, and cocobolo and is 10"x4 1/2". I downloaded the plans for the vase from Kevin Neally's site. I really had a lot of fun building it.

All critiques are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

Nice work! :) I can't comment on the segmented piece because I've never had the nerve to try one. :o My only critique on the maple bowl is that it appears the curve flattens out a bit between the base and the rim. Also, most of the "trumpet" shapes seem to float a bit more with a slightly smaller base, but that's a personal preference. Other than that, it looks great to me, and the finish is superb. The grain is centered on the bowl well, and I really like this grain orientation for this form. Nice job!

Both are nice. I especially like that you have not been afraid to try different shapes on the bowl than just doing one that looks like the next guys. Dont be afraid to try something new. Very good.

I'd be proud to have that bowl. I like your photography as well.

Both of those are beauties. It doesn't make any difference how long it took that is a great job.

Both of your turnings look really good to me Quinn!

I like the shape of your bowl! Nice wood grain and finish!

I like the pattern of your segmented vase - it forces your eyes to move across the form. The joinery all looks tight. Nice work on both!

Both are beautiful Quinn. I don't think I would change anything, but then again I'm no expert. Skip

Both are vry nice. Nice choice of woods too. My vote is for the segmented one, but then again segmenting is my preference to turn too. The bowl is very attractive as well and a nice grain.

I like that bowl. I tried one a few months ago and it blew up on me. I need to try that shape again.
