I was given a walnut log about 4 ft.x8 in. a fow days ago. I was told that it had been laying in this persons back yard for at leaste the last 25 yrs.It looks like ight have all of that. I took a chunk from one end and was able to get a couple of small blanks out of it. I don't know how much more there will be. The first bowl went to the doner and here is the other one. about 6in.x2 1/2. any comments?

Very nice bowl. What kind of finish did you use?

I doubt a log would make it that long in any back yard of a SMC member!!

Nice looking bowl. I've read in a couple of places that old air dried wood turns nicer. Did you notice any difference in turning?

Very nice bowl. There are some downed Walnut trees behind my parents house for as long as I remember. One of these weekends, I plan on taking a chainsaw out there and hack them up. I certainly hope the wood looks as good as yours.

Nice find and great bowl.

old farmers use walnut for fence post, as well as Sassafras, Osage Orange, and of course Locust.
