Here's a coffee table I drew up with Google's SketchUp, it is based off of a Coffee Table I saw in a recent West Elm (http://www.westelm.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?partNumber=WE-PRODf553&storeId=17001&langId=-1&catalogId=17002&viewSetCode=E&parentId=WE-SH1FRNCOF&retainNav=true&cmsrc=WE-SH1FRNCOF) catalog. I only changed the top edges some. I didn't know the angles of the base or the dimensions. I am still deciding if I am going to build it or not yet, but really like the design. Any thoughts?

Cool. I like it quite a bit. Simple but dramatic and a little confusing to the eye (which is good).

I went ahead and played with the SketchUp file a bit. There were a lot of reversed surfaces which might have been messing things up for you. Also the rectangle which made the lower surface of the top had become something other than a rectangle. That's why the sides wouldn't fill in.

I've attached my version of the SU file.

Have you thought about construction? What material could you use that is that thick? What joinery would you use between the leg slabs?

Most here on the Creek go for more traditional designs, but we have some real experts at more modern approaches too. Good luck with it.
