I picked up a Jet 1236 from Tim Fitzgibbon whom I met through the classifieds on this forum (as a plug he has 2 more and a 1442)and this is the first bowl I did with it, took me over a week to find time to just put the thing together, I'm also redoing a floor and the front pads on my boat that I'm selling (any one in the Lousiville, KY area looking for a good deal on a great boat :D )

Anyway the wood is birdseye maple with a little bit of spalting, finished with salad bowl finish and is about 6" in diameter

Rick - congrats on your new lathe! Love the bowl! Great form and finish and there is just enough bird's eye to really highlight the wood! Nice work!

I'm definitly keeping that bowl, my girlfriend tried to wrangle it out the front door last night, but I was able to save it with a promise of something bigger now that I can turn outboard (I'm going to post a gloat after this, so you will have an idea of what she will be getting). I have only been turning since Oct last year on a manual Jet mini and the size of the 1236 give me more room to work. I feel I'm making pretty good progress for only having had 2 lessons :o
