View Full Version : Rolling Mortise jig for router table

Good day

That's the latest version of the jig.

The setting might look very long (on the pics) but actually it's very short.

The "Fence stops" are set only one time.

The "Roller unit stops", two times (one for left and one for right) but it takes seconds.

On the test, I cranked the router up in increments of 1/8" but I felt that I could lift more for each pass (it was too easy for the router)

Regards
niki

Very cool, that roller unit is well thought out! I especially like the side-play adjustment.

Thank you Grady

I'm using the same method of the rollers adjustment also on the Tenon jig and the Crosscut sled the ride is smooth and I never have a "side play".

Hello Niki,
Yes - I agree the "roller trick" solved a real problem I have with making a crosscut sled.

P.S.
Hope you don't mind me quoting you in my sig. I saw that on one of your posts and had a chace to put that advice to good use over the past weekend.

Thank you Rich

When I saw it, I started to laugh...If I did not know that we are talking about the triangle.......actually, in both cases we are talking about the "Triangle"... :):):);)

Nissim, once again a very elaborate jig and well explained. You have got to be the most detail oriented jig maker I have ever known, and you certainly have a knack for multimedia tutoring.

Do you have any pics of your crosscut sled? I need to make one to improve the quality of my cuts. Got a new router table top coming in the mail :D That should also keep me busy!

Edit: Nevermind Niki, I found the pics, very neat as well and that side play adjustment along with the tongue and groove style guiding sounds rock solid. Kudos.

Thank you so mush

Zahid
I WANT people to understand the way that I did it...
Some secret from my "black past"... long time ago, for 3 years, I was ground instructor for Aircraft mechanics, electrician (the mechanical side), pilots and flight engineers...maybe something remained...

Grady
I'm going to post a step-by-step of the crosscut sled for the TS.

That is very cool.

Something that I'm not picking up however is what the microadjuster clamped to the table does. Is that to square the track the jig rolls on?

Thank you Zach (in Hebrew Zach = Pure).

The micro-adjuster is for very fine adjustment of the fence-bit distance.
I made it with short bolt so it's compact...if I need more travel, I just push a piece of wood between the bolt and the fence.

To see the method please have a look at this post
