HI All - I haven't posted pics here in a while, so thought I would share my latest commission.

Here is a walnut media center that I just finished for a client. I wish that they hated it so I could keep it!! No luck. The doors fold up like barrister doors and there are 4 very large drawers on the bottom, pictures are deceiving, this unit is 74 by 32 by 24, so really big. The finish is Waterlox. Love it. Client is picking hardware for the drawers.

This last picture shows how the door tucks inside. I just used dowels and slot. Should work fine. It was a great project. Thanks for looking.

Gail,

This has to be one of the best pieces you have done (so far) and is absolutely beautiful. I love the color and the finish.........

Is the lattice work on the doors mortise & tenon or are the horizontal pieces slotted to accept the verticals?? Your design or the clients or a combination of both??

Thanks for posting..........

Great piece Gail, really like the grain matching on the walnut. Well done.

Thanks! I came up with the design by looking at other pieces in catalogs, talking to the client and drawing it up. The lattice work is mortised through the center pieces and into the upper and lower rails. I use an attachment for my drill press for this type of work (grizzly).

Thanks you.

Gail, that is one fancy looking piece. I bet your client will be having you do more items for them.

Nice work Gail,

I like how you worked the wood across the drawers to continue the flow.

I am not critisizing your designm but did you consider a second wood for the lattice? I am looking a it and it's a nice detail yjay might stand out with a complimenting wood, even a spalted maple?!?! who knows, it's just the way I look at things...I might have balanced the cross lattice higher than the mid vertical point...just me typing out loud...:)

The finish looks really nice and I like the flip up door idea, sort of like a barrister cabinet..

Again, Thanks for posting and also putting up with my babble:cool:

Gail,

As soon I saw walnut, I knew I would love it (one of my favorites), and sure enough I do. What type of slides did you end up using?

Beautiful piece Gail. Love the finish. Did you use anything else beside the Waterlox on this piece??Just curious. Thanks.

Thanks all. The waterlox was the only finish I used, the Sealer/Finish for the 1st coats and 4 additional coats of the gloss finish. (no stain)

I ended up just using handmade mechanism - dowels and runner for the barrister doors. It works nicely and better than I expected.

I love the top too - I picked all the top boards and did the glue up first with the best looking ones and them moved on from there.

Thanks again
