Just bought a few LN planes and wanted to know what you use to clean the film off. Can I use the camallia oil?

Thanks
Mike

I generally use kerosene. It's cheap, safe, and there's a small can of it on the shelf most of the time. Maybe it's not as haute couture as camelia oil, but it works for me.

Enjoy your new tools!

Mineral spirits for me - same stuff I use to clean off power tools when I get them. Don't need a lot of it - just enough to clean off the gunk, or most of it. You'll run the rest off pretty quickly when you start fooling with it to see how it cuts on a piece of scrap.

I just wipe them off with a paper towel and put them to use. Never noticed any transfer to the wood.

I think the film on new LN planes is camallia oil.
