This is a photo of a spalted yellow birch bowl I just delivered. It was 13”x4”. It was 13”x4”, rim undercut to a 1/4" wall thickness. The finish was Russ' O/V. It is hard to see in the photo but this was one of the nicer spalted pieces of wood I have found. I think nature did all the enhancements necessary . Comments or suggestions for improvement appreciated.

That's a beautiful piece! The form has a nice flow to it and I like the way you did the rim. Good photos too BTW!

Beautiful! A simple and elegant form, well executed, and you let the beauty of the wood speak for itself. My only suggestion is that you might consider a larger foot, about 30 - 50 percent of the diameter of the bowl, which increases the utility of a piece like this. Someone will be proud to own this bowl.

The simple form allows the wood to do the talking and boy! There is so much going on in that wood it makes noises like an angry crowd! Great turning....stunning wood! Very nicely done George!

Ron, I agree with you, a larger foot on a utility helps the stability and supports the fork and spoon stuck in the salad. This bowl will never hold salad and will be displayed with others in the owners home to be appreciated.
