Here are the 2 shapers I brought back from my Dad's. I have a set of carbide raise panel door bits for the Davis & Wells shaper & a steel set for the Craftsman shaper.

Kewel tools, Bart, especially that Davis and Wells. Old tools like that really have panache!

(I don't know that I'd be fond of the top on the Craftsman with all those openings...personal preference)

I am not fond of it but wonder if there is a way to keep & use this machine but still overcome this problem?

You'll just have to be careful with the size of projects you choose to do on the Craftsman, Bart...as well as where you set your wrench when changing cutters... :)

I know it was Dad's first shaper & he used it for bullnosing & edge work. The Davis & Wells was used for door work.
