What is the purpose for the plastic bar on the riving knife bracket? I have yet to figure out what it does, other than make it harder to remove the blade.

I don't recall seeing that on my S315WS....

Just a guess --- Is it something they put in there during shipping to keep something in place and wasn't removed?

I have owned two different MM saws and have never seen that. It might be there to aid in the holding of the riving knife bracket while it is adjusted. I can think of no reason what so ever for it to be there...

I can't say that I know what it's purpose is, but it is on my CU300 classic. Well, some of it is still there. I cut part of it off because it made changing the blade a real chore.

I have no experience whatsoever with MM table saws but perhaps to deflect sawdust? Just a wild guess. I tend to agree with the other posters though abou it being something for packing / shipping.
