Here's an update on the bath vanity and mirror project for my bathroom. It’s going much slower than I care to admit.

I had some issues with the hinges on the barrel front doors. A lot of fussing was required to get them to work properly. The small side doors will have inset mottled glass (by the way, nice glass from Rockler). The small side cabinets will have pull-out drawer shelves (not shown in the picture). The top will be made from solid-surface material as seen in the CAD generated pictures shown directly below.

It's finally ready for finishing, but we want to finish the surround for the mirror first. I’m re-using an existing mirror and giving it a new mahogany surround and appliqué. Here are some in-process pics...

Jeff, that is looking extremely cool. The coopered doors are over the top (in a good way;) ). What are you planning to do to prevent the out-rigger cabinets from sagging over time?

Jeff,

What do you mean? I thought it was always cheaper and faster to make it and then to buy it.:D At least that's what I tell my wife anytime she sees a piece of furniture she likes. Everyone of my projects go slower than I ever anticipate. I recently had a family member ask me to make them a bookshelf of some sorts. I told them I would be more than happy to, but I have about a 1 year backlog (which consists of about 2 projects!!!) Quality work, like what you are doing, takes time.

On another note, it looks awesome. Excellent work.

Jeff,

Very nice design work. I especially like the mirror.

I hope before the walls were finished you installed lots of blocking to support the cabinet.

If you have a tile shower in that bathroom, in addition to what's showing on the vanity wall, that's a lot of tile work to do.

Thanks to all for the cool comments.

The outrigger cabinets are pretty small and made of 3/4" hardwood plywood. They will be lagged to the wall studs. I don't anticipate that they will see much more stress than a standard kitchen wall cabinet. The top of these cabinets won't function as a countertop either. The weight of the sink will be transmitted to the large center cabinet via chrome tubes. Plus there is a sub-top (see second pic below) which further connects everything together. If it still sags, I'll just call it 'charm'. :)

Here's an exploded view of the carcass to better show the parts. It's pretty beefy. Also, below it is another picture of the entire vanity exploded. No wonder it's taking me so long!

That's really come along way...and I just love seeing both the renderings and the real McCoy come together!

Very impressive, especially the curved doors! But the whole design is very pleasant.
