It has taken a really long time, mostly due to scheduling difficulties but I finally finished the Shaker Blanket Chest in curly maple. In retrospect I probably should have used some high-grit sandpaper on the top after scraping to get rid of the remaining roughness in the curls (not all of which was removed by scrapers) but C'est La Vie. It sort of gives it more of an antique feel anyway. It was built, pretty much like all of my work, with a combination of handwork and power tool work. The finish is dye, BLO, shellac and wax. The hinges are forged iron and the lock is a brass half-mortise lock with keyhole escutcheon.

that is really nice. the finish combination really makes the figure stand out and is very pleasing.

Fantastic piece all the way around. First off, it's Shaker! Second, it's tiger maple. You're execution is first rate and the hardware is a nice choice. Thanks for posting it for us.

Andrew,

Stunning piece, a blanket chest is on my list of things to do although I am quite certain it will be a far cry from what you have done.

Actually these plans were from Glen Huey. I didn't have the Sawstop in the shop when I cut all of these pieces (it's been a long time building this one), so I mainly used the old TS and guided circular saw to make the panels. The SS sled will fit them though (and make much shorter work of it).

Nice piece. I assume there are two drawers at the bottom. Great job.
