I started turning this canarywood today. The blank looked pretty blah. But I had to get it done as a wedding gift. Sure got lucky on it's looks! Still work being done on it, that's why the pictures of it on the lathe.....

Nice work, Bonnie....

What are the dimensions...is that a single piece or a glue-up...surely can't tell from the picture. It should prove to be a welcome gift when done!

Thanks for the comments. I was just so surprised with the grain I had to take a picture before finishing lol It is one solid piece, 8/4x8"x8".

Yep. Usually some interesting patterns hiding in the most blah materials. And gets even better with finishing. Very well done, and a good payoff for your perseverance.

Bonnie.....nice platter.....beautiful wood! My wife says that's what she enjoys most about my turning......the surprise beauty released from within a nondescript piece of wood when you turn it.

Add another "WOW" to the list and make it a double! I picked up a piece of canarywood a while back that has similar dimensions (12/4x8x8) and rather plain as well. Hope I've got a goody hiding in there as well!

cheers

And my picture taking sucks. But here's the finished dish. She wanted it to 'float' so she asked for a small short pedestal. I don't care for that part, but it's not mine.....
