Hello,
Being Summer vacation time, I tought I'd bring this to everyone's attention should they find themself in the Chillicothe, Ohio area.

It's the story of the Shawnee leader Tecumseh held in the outdoor amphitheater. The drama itself is captivating enough to hold the interest of anyone from 6 to 106. I took my kids to it years ago when they were 6 and 7. They sat through the whole show mesmerized by what was taking place.

Unlike other theaters, the outdoor setting allows 360 degree "action". Mounted troops and Shawnee enter from all sides, even from behind the audience.
A mounted Shawnee warrior - coming down the aisle from behind you at full gallop - swinging a tomahawk - and giving a "War whoop" at the top of his lungs - is a real attention getter.
~ 30 years after the experience my blood still runs a little cold..

Tecumseh - the main character - was one of the most remarkable men (IMHO) to have ever lived. The man spent his entire life as an enemy of the United States. Yet. The US Navy "honored" him by naming two (IRC) ships after him.

He came this close --><-- to forming an alliance between the various Nations that would have halted the Western expansion of the US pretty much at the Pa/Oh border for who can tell how long.

One of my favorite quotes of all time:

"Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about his religion.
Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.
Seek to make your life long and of service to your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,
or even a stranger, if in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people, but grovel to none.
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light,
for your life, for your strength.
Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.
Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools
and robs the spirit of its vision.
When your time comes to die,
be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death,
so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time
to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home."
- Tecumseh

is as good advice today as it was ~ 200 years ago.

I may make a trip, it sounds very interesting.

One should always respect great leaders, no matter which side they are on.

Military history is full of times when we (and many other nations) did not do so to our great folly.

I Like the quote, I haven't seen that before.

If you have the time, and go in for that kind of thing, there's a novelized version of his life called "Panther in the Sky" by James Alexander Thom. Very well researched and a great read (as in hard to put down).
