View Full Version : Mesquite hollow form with finial

This is a small piece of Mesquite that measures 5 1/2 ''wide . Measures 13'' tall over all. The pedestal and finial is my first skew work which rather enjoyed especially the quality of cut. India ink and antique oil finish. Comments welcome.

That is a gorgeous piece! It is very well balanced with good color contrasts! Your spindle work is very delicate with good balance too and the whole thing has a nice finish! Way to go!

Yes very nice work indeed, the India ink works great huh? The base on the top final piece may be just a smite too large, could be just me tho. :eek:

I used soft maple for the pedestal and finial, then done the india ink.

Nice work...steady hands. You mentioned the piece is 13" tall and near 5" wide. If you knew it or not, you are working very closely to the Golden Ratio. I think you would be very surprised of how the dynamic of the piece would change if you had an 8" element introduced somehow.

That's a beauty Mike! The spindle work looks delicate and still sturdy enough to support the box. That's really nice.
