This was my first try at a goblet this tall and with this thin a stem. I was challenged by a friend to try it. 11" tall x 1 3/8" diameter and 1/8" stem. Made of walnut with oil finish.

Great job on a beauty. That took some work on that stem.

Beautiful goblet... that takes a lot of skill to turn something that thin! Great work!

That's pretty wild Ron. Did you use a steady to keep it from going to pieces? I think if I tried that it would end up a box of toothpicks. Thats very cool.

Ron

That is a beautiful goblet. How did you hold the stem intact?? Bring it to our next club meeting for show and tell, looking forward to seeing it in real life.

Jim and Bill, I turned the inside of the cup first then I turned a compression cup to fit in the cup. Then used a small bearing, bolt, and a Jacobs chuck in the tailstock to hold it when I turned the stem. Thanks for the nice comments.

Wow, that's amazing! So from your post, did you actually use the compression cup to "pull" on it, basically stretching it as you turned the stem. That's very inpressive.

Curt the cup and bearing are just friction fit and self aligning no pulling, it kept it very steady. Curt you have been my inspiration with your goblet posts thank you.
