I am doing a little project for my club to make a site to reference common trees in the South West (specifically Arizona) with pictures of turnings, leaves, bark, seeds, flowers and description of turning properties.

I am currently looking for a picture of a turning and permission to use it for the following woods.

Bottle Tree
Chinese Elm
Cottonwood
Honey Locust
Indian Rosewood (dalbergia sissoo) also called sissoo tree
and Texas ebony

Please let me know if you can help. This is a non profit project.

Mike,

Do you need sample pictures of trees, wood, bark, leaves, pods, seeds, etc. as well?

I have a few turnings of those listed wood but most are of pens.

If we can help, will it be best to email you the pics? What size (l x w) and max file size is ideal?

I am looking for a picture of a turning. I have the rest of the stuff.

e-mail is fine (vickerms at gmail.com)
or you can post a link to a picture in this thread.
or if you are feeling really motivated http://www.distinctiveturnings.com/wiki/tiki-index.php

I would prefer some thing bigger then a pen so you can see more of the wood. But since I do not have anything right now a pen would be great.

I appreciate any help I can get.

Mike,
Unfortunately my chinese elm bowl isn't finished yet. However, feel free to use the pics of my honey locust bowl from this thread:

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=49486

It is not my best work but it does show the difference between the heartwood and sapwood pretty well.

Good luck with your project!

Dick

Here's a pic of a pic of a piece of desert Ironwood i've been sitting on for quite some time. I want to build a table with it one day. I just thought it was so beautiful i bought it not even knowing what I'm going to do with it. The piece next to it is Bocote.
