View Full Version : n.e. maple burl "tulip" bowls

Here are pics of a couple bowls that are going out as gifts, one to the fellow who gave me the burl and one to my mother. The smaller, darker one has three coats of blo with four coats of Deft semi-gloss. the larger, lighter one is just friction polished. I definitely like the blo finish better.

Very well done....tried my first NE last night....had a big catch and it exploded...no harm to me, besides the pride. Will try again, practice makes perfect!

Those are great! A very nice way to use a piece of burl like that one, too.

Those are beautiful. The 1st pic looks like molten lava. What a great use of the wood. Nice work.

Yeah, I'm gonna get a few bottle stoppers and quite a few pens out of the rest. It has spectacular rays emanating from the birdseyes.

The small one is about 4 1/2"w x 5" h. The larger is just slightly wider.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I'm leaving on vacation for Montana today, (where I'm from) and can't wait to give these bowls to the recipients:D .
