Having been through some tough times with a spouse...it's a little scary to think about what he must be going though.

If anyone hears from him, I'm sure we'll see it here first. In the meantime, let's just keep wishing them both the best and continue to throw in a prayer or two.

Yes...just keep on keeping on. I haven't heard from Mike either and I sure hope everything is going well.

I talked to Mike this evening around 6:30pm. I had called his shop yesterday evening late when I read his post about his wife.

When he returned my call this evening, he updated me on her progress. She is a bit better, a prognosis has been made, and there will be a time of healing and physical therapy. Apparently, a virus got hold of her nervous system. He was very appreciative of everyone's prayers and well wishes. I'm sure he'll be back posting as soon as other priorities let up a little bit.

Thanks Todd...
According to my wife, a nurse, as bad as it is that's actually not the worst news. If it's what she thinks it is, it will be a difficult time recovering but it is something that is correctable. Continued hope from here.

First my wife, my daughter and I would like to that everyone for their prayers and thoughts.

She has been diagnosed with Gillian-Barre Syndrome and they also found out that she has Lupus after taking spinal fluid on Wednesday. She will hopefully regain her ability to walk with medication and physcial therapy. The doctors have told us that she might be walking again in 1 month, maybe 6 months, maybe never, but he also said that the chances of a full recovery are quite good.
The Lupus is another story and one that we were not ready to hear. They know much more about this disease than they used to so we are encouraged by this and our faith.
Again our family does believe in the power of prayers and we sincerely appreciate them and hope that you will continue to include our family in them. We know that God will watch over us and keep us always.
I am continually amazed by the bond that is common among woodworkers that extends past the physical side of life.

May God bless each and everyone of you and your families.

Mike,

I am glad you and your wife at least know what you are dealing with now. My daughter-in-law's sister has Lupus, and while it causes some minor problems, she leads a full and active life.

You shall continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Bob

Mike, thanks for the update. GBS is devastating at onset, but luckily is recoverable from in most cases. I have seen patients completely resolved in several months. My best wishes to your wife for a speedy recovery. As for Lupus, as your Doctor has said, and others, it is not the feared disease it once was. Lifestyle changes will be in order, but they too can be overcome. Your wife, you, and your family will be in our prayers for continued health and a speedy recovery.

Be well,

Doc

All the mother-in-laws sisters(5) have Lupus. I can't say I know much about it, but with the exception of the bad week here and there, they seem perfectly healthy. I hope thing are getting better for you and your family.

My wife, Carol, is still hospitalized with no improvement in her ability to move her feet. We are a bit distressed by the lack of a formal diagnosis that is consistent among the 4 doctors that are treating her at this point. The two main doctors are at odds over the actual diagnosis. The neurologist is standing by his Gillian-Barre Syndrome diagnosis, while the other specialist feels that it is a vascular disorder (Shujrans) (sp?) that is causing the nerve impairment. My wife is a real trooper given the hand that she has been dealt. I only hope that I can exhibit her faith, courage and strength.
Our church family is ever vigilent and is helping our daughter and myself meals and offering much needed and welcomed support around the clock to us all.
Your kind emails of support, thoughts and prayers are sincerely and deeply appreciated by all of us.
