We are going on a Northern European/Russia cruise this week. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to buy a calling card once in Europe and make a call home.

Yes, you can buy them there. Or consider a service such as Pingo which you can sign up for at home and use while abroad with local access numbers. Although we didn't use it, we would have been able to call from Russia with it via a toll-free access number. Rates are very low.

Enjoy your cruise!

when we were in china, we used an at&t pre-paid card that we purchased at sam's club. it was a 1200 minute card that cost about $30-$35.

i think our calls used up eight minutes on the card for every one minute on the phone. this worked out to about $0.24/minute.
