There is one on each skate looks like a clover leaf. Cut the wood ahead of the blade when doing cross grain work.

Hi Jim,

Personally I wouldn't bother. That style of nicker is, in my view, a very poor design. To work properly, they really need to be adjustable in height. Only a few combination planes offered height-adjustable nickers - a few models of the Stanley #55 and the later Record #050 with the blue plastic handle. The clover leaf type are too long when new and really need to be reduced in length to work effectively. They then soon wear out with repeated sharpening. They are only necessary for cross-grain work and you would probably do better scoring the wood with a cutting gauge or knife.

I think there's a difference between nickers and knickers lol.
