I guess I would call this a platter since it is not a bowl. I was trying to see if I could turn a shallow piece of scrap that I thought had some potentially interesting grain underneath some ant infestation. Not the easiest chunk to work with but it did not shatter. Still trying to decide if I should burn the left edge (top photo) where I had to cut out some rot. It is 10"x1". antique oil and buffed. suggestions, critiques welcome.

that is a big piece of dogwood, usually do not see anything that size in virginia

thanks everyone. I will be turning dogwood for a while now since there seem to be a number that are not surviving our drought. not all will be as large as this tree but free wood is nice.

Constructive advice. Reduce the diameter and make it round. This is only my opinion, so please don't take it the wrong way.
