I just finished kicking myself for getting one when they were $288. Then just for fun I checked your link, and saw that they are up to $459. But anyone who got one for $248 got a great deal.

Thanks for the heads up Chris. I've used this model before and achieved excellent results. Too good of a price to pass up.

Looks like the price has jumped a little to $282 + shipping. If you do pull the trigger on one, and they lower the price, Amazon does have a program where for 30 days they will give you a refund on the price difference.

I purchased this planer last year and have used it a few times. I've notice that for the first 2 inche or so of any piece I run through it there is a noticable spot where the depth is different. In other words, it appears that the first two inches are planed at a depth that is less than the rest of the piece. Any ideas on what would cause this? The tables appear ok based on the manual, but I haven't adjusted them to be different than what is recommended. Thanks for any help!

Just FYI, I had 2 of these before I sent them both back and got the dewalt, which I like a lot better. Similarly priced and a much better product IMO.

That's good to know. I just used a Dewalt in a class I'm taking at a WoodCraft store and was pleased with the results.

I appreciate all the information on tools. Yes, I realize that some complain that it's all we talk about, but for someone like me it's a very important part of this site. If all goes well, I'll post pictures of the table I'm making in my class.

There are plenty of opinions about planers. Dewalt and Makita have their share of supporters and detractors.

My experience with the Makita has been very positive.

YMMV.
