This is probably the best piece of apple from the tree I recently cut. I have turned four pieces from this tree and none of it split, and apple is bad to split and check. All these were done with the dna method. I think this is the best of the four. Wall thickness is about 1/4'' .Measures 8'' wide and just over 6'' tall. Antique oil finish and buffed.

Mike, the more I see and work with apple, the more it's becoming my favorite wood. Not just becuase of the grain but the smell while working it.

I love what you did with this piece! Great form and bark inclusions. Was this a crotch piece??

Great looking HF Mike! Amazed that this didn't crack/check on you! Absolutely love the form! I like the inclusions in the wood, the knots and most of all - your finish! A great example of the type of HF I hope to be able to turn - someday! Very nice work!

That is very nice. I don't see how ya'll (that's Texas talk) can see what is inside the wood before you turn it!

I like this one a lot. The apple you used has a huge amount of interest...perfect for the piece's simple, classical SW form.

Thanks fellows, this was a crotch piece, probably won't see anymore apple for a while , atleast not from me. I have been roughing sweetgum and walnut. Plus I got another idea for a segmented piece. Thanks again

...been roughing sweetgum and walnut.

Mike, I love the apple! I'd like to see some of the sweetgum when you have a piece ready. It looks like I may have access to some and I've never seen any turned.

That is some really pretty wood. I would have thought that apple would crack real bad, but you have been keeping it together. Nice job on the form and that finish is spectacular.
