This is a shallow lidded box from Osage Orange with a Blackwood knob/finial. It's 5" x 3" plus the finial. I left a small bead on the lid to draw your eye away from the seam of the actual lid. (Did it fool anyone?;) ) The dark lines are weathered cracks that were already in the wood. The finial is a little heavy duty because the lid fits pretty tight and needs a little pull to get it off. Deft finish.

Beautiful form and finish! I also love the wood combination! The bead work on the lid did fool me - at first glance I thought the bead was the opening. Nice detail work on the finial.

Curt, that is one beautiful box - and may be my favorite box of any I've seen. I like the proportion of the finial and how it really brings out the dark lines in the piece. That bead really makes the lid.
Fantastic piece. :D :)

Osage Orange is one of my favorite woods to turn. Your example is Fantastic!!!! Beautiful box. I have about half a ton of Osage Burl, the trunk is over 4' in diameter. I've given lots of it away but still have enough to turn until my tools are gone.

Extremely nice. And the finial proportions are perfect. Yep; fooled me too; but no complaints at all.

Snazzy one, Curt! And that's gonna look just as nice even when it browns out...the inclusion will still bring great contrast to the piece! Truly beautiful!

One of the things I really, really love about turning Osage orange is that it polishes up so wonderfully, even without any applied finish...

Lovely Curt. The whole piece is well done. Proportions, balance, colors, finish all combine to make this wonderful. I think the finial is just right, not too heavy, not too fragile-and it compliments the colors in the wood. The bead on the lid adds a nice touch too.

Very nice work! (And that's not just an "attaboy, ego-stroking, pat-on-the-back" comment)
