We have a three tier fountain that creates algae. The pump just recirculates the water. Anyone know of a chemical that will kill the algae and not harm adjacent plants?

They make aglaecides specifically formulated for ponds that are plant safe. Not sure of any other products.

One of the best natural controls for algae is barley straw. It inhibits new growth so once you use an algaecide to deal with the "current crop", barley straw can help keep it away. (It does not work on all varieties of algae, however) You can get small "pillows" of barley straw at a pond supply as well as the loose version in a box/bag. We use the loose version because our pond is a little too big for the small pillows to be effective.
