I have been working on a few pens this weekend, I had some nice ones, this one really looked nice to me.

It’s a sterling Baron roller ball, solid end (technically a hollow form for pen makers).

The pen body was turned from a 5/8 square black and white marble celluloid. The tubes and the blank were painted out with black acrylic Testors model paint.

Thoughts and critiques are welcomed.

Hi Jim,

What a great pen! I have tried some plastic materials and they have not been my favorite to turn. Also, do you customers find an issue with the cap not fitting on the end of the solid end pens you make? I've made a few solid ends and the cap has always been a bit of a conundrum for me.

Thanks Chris,

I have found that there are some people who like capped pens that they can post the cap and others who don't care.

When I focus on making solid end pens I Know that the owner knows is a one of a kind and they take pride in that, so these solid end pens are the ones that sell well to that demographic of customers.

They sell well.

I'm not usually all the crazy over acrylic pens but that one is fantastic. Kind of reminds me of the old lava lamp days.

Very nice pen. Looks real elegant. I like turning acrylics because they are easy and fast to finish, and people seem to really go for them.

Jim

That is beautiful! I'm turning my first closed end Baron now out of Red Mallee.

Where did you get that blank, if you don't mind disclosing your source?

Thanks Grant and all,

I did forget to mention that the blanks is from Craft Supply USA.

I love wood pens best, but these have a market and I do well with them:)

Be sure to post your pen Grant when you are done.

By the way Grant, CSUSA ships to Canada vis the post office, so they are Canadian Friendly:rolleyes:
