Gift for my father. I thought he would enjoy this. Made from a big black spruce burl he brought back from Alaska in 1994. The bowl is 10 X 3.5, Antique Oil and buffed.

Tom;
What a great Father's Day Present. I like the shape and the rim detail, and the wood is awesome. It will be treasured.

That's a real beauty! I like the little detail around the edge. And that's one of those woods that we don't see turned very often. Your dad's going to really like it.

Beautiful bowl Tom! That'll put a smile on your dad's face.
How was it to turn????? I brought one with me on the move that I snagged from my dad......it'll wait until I know what I'm doing.

The wood was much harder than I thought it would be. Very dry after all those years. Lots of cracks..if you look closely, you can see one on the rim of the bowl. I kept turning it out, but couldnt get it all without having a very small bowl. I decided to leave it as is and not fill it...it came with the wood and was stable... I have a couple more pieces and will try another one this week.

Real nice bowl and real pretty wood. I wouldn't think spruce would have that much figure.

Great gift Tom, I am sure this was a big, greatly appreciated surprise. After seeing this I have to go out to the bog and check for a black spruce burl. In all the winters I spent chasing beagles for snowshoe hares I do not remember looking at one, but then I was not looking up either.;)
