Well my Father in Law Kim Ford has gotten me hooked in the vortex. A few months ago Kim starting talking about this Oliver wood lathe that he had found. Well a couple of weeks went by and we went and picked it up. We kind of made a mistake though we bought the lathe and picked it up when the shop was only 1/3 completed. Now it has been several months and the shop is 3/8 completed. We spend too much time turing and don't have enough time to finish the shop with all of the bowls and goblets :D . My best friend is getting married and I thought that a bowl would be the perfect gift. So Kim found a really nice myrtlewood blank and we turned it. I roughed out the outside of the bowl and he did the finishing. A friend of ours has a cnc laser and burned the writing on it for us. Thank you for everything Kim!!!!

What a great way to mix craftmanship and technology. I understand the challenge achieving concentricity of the text that is burnt in, but what a great wedding present!

That's what will be remembered long after the great occasion.

Very well done Ryan! I got shoved into the vortex here by the local inmates. My shop was about a week from being completed. I've worked about 30 minutes towards finishing it since Feb. 2006. I do find time to turn however.....

Myrle seems to have treated you well! Very nice bowl and it's great how you were able to do the laser engraving on the rim.

Very nice. Offering turnings as gifts, especially personalized, is even better than selling them. And that is coming from a hardcore capitalist!

Your gift will be one of the favorite gifts the couple receives for years to come.

That's a nice one. Just how big is that? From the pic on the bench it looks enormous. I know they will love it. A keepsake for years to come.

Ryan, you are too modest. All I did was a couple of finish cuts. You did an excellent job, something to be very proud of.

Oh, and just in case Catherine should read this, for the record: " I did not hook you on the vortex" , I simply lead you to the edge. . . . . .
