v-speed trouble

I started my Palmgren lathe yesterday and the variable speed does not work now. There was kind of a pop when I turned the dial and the belt is all the way at the top. I think something broke, maybe a pin or ????.
Any suggestions?

Well I called Palmgren and worked with Mark we went through checking the capacitors, then the gears and belts all seemed OK. So he is shipping me a new head. We will see how long this one lasts. Maybe I will take Jamie's suggeston next year.
