To my (our) delight it was this...

66250

66251

66252

Stanley No. 2, never sharpened. Much rustier but an hour of brass wire wheel, windex, WD40 and JPW was all it took. One chip in the casting on the right rear but no problem for me. I am looking forward to using this and it really will be great when my son gets a little older as it is smaller and will fit him.

Bevel down right? Thats the way it was.

I am officially crazy about planes. I go to every tag sale there is in the hope of finding one for $10 or $20... what is that saying about the slope?

Hope you liked it.

Garbage bag? Were you dumpster diving??

Oh yeah.

No, I started a new job today remodelling a house and there were some bags of garbage left for us to throw away and one felt a little heavy and caught my curiosity. Needless to say I searched all the others.

I forgot to say where I was.

Thanks

That's the kind of thing that makes your day, eh? Or maybe the whole month. Nice one.

Congrads Ben, You do realize that thing is worth alot, and alot of money. I have only ever seen one #2 in person.

Very nice find and for free YOU SUCK!!! The plane is worth less to a collector because of the chip but it will still work fine.

Know the feeling...my father-in-law knows I am on the lookout for planes, so when he's looking for treasures for himself, he keeps an eye out. He was at an old farm stead with the owner and going through the barn. He had already purchased a couple of items, when he saw a plane tote sticking out of an old bucket. When he asked how much the guy wanted for it, he told him he could just have it.

He mailed it out to me and lo and behold, it's a square side 604 1/2, which cleaned up rather nicely.

OMG!!! You are a lucky dog. I've been looking for a no2 at a reasonable price for almost a year now but the prices keep going up and up. I'd buy a LN no2 but I think the curved sides, on the smaller planes, are more attractive.

Oh, in case you haven't heard, YOU SUCK!!! ;)

Sorta like finding an old Porsche or Jaguar in the barn under a few decades of dust, isn't it?

You lucky dog...I've been looking for a #2 user for some time now with no luck.

Could you introduce me to the guy who filled that garbage bag?

Poor Ben, he's now doomed to searching garbage bags for life.

It's lucky that a woodworker found it. What are the odds?

Nice find!

I guess it just proves that good things can happen to bad people.

Thanks for looking.
