I have beed think about making or buying a cyclone for awhile. My grizzly 2hp collector died a couple weeks ago and I purchased a surplus 4hp marathon( I know strange size) to replace it the motor so I am using it for now. But I bought the bigger motor so I could buy a bigger impeller and build or buy a cyclone body.

I have been all over Bill Pentz website many times. But have found a cyclone on the "bay" that everone says works good. he has great feedback but I know most feed back is on shipping and not how well the product performs.

I emailed him and asked some questions this was part of his response
"It is not the Bill Pentz design, but rather from the New York State dept. of labor, dept. of hygiene engineering, 1962. Physically they are very similar in size, I do not use a neutral vane, I have found it unnecessary. I have sold over 700 of these units and never had one complaint about performance."

it looks good and I was wondering if anyone else had tried or owned one.
if I buy it I will make a blower and buy a 14" impeller.

Hi Bob,

It certainly looks interesting, doesn't it? I ran across this same thing on the bay a few months ago. It seems like you can't go wrong using an existing DC with their unit being only a separator. I'm no expert though.

The price is right, too. I'm going to watch this thread.

Randy,
they sell for 169 plus about 20 shipping.

That price is for either the 6" or 4". Kind of nice not to get whacked on price just because you need two more inches.

Is this the same item listed on eBay? Looks like it.

Bill Pentz poo-pood the cyclone separator that started this thread.

I can see his point, I guess. I think the mods in that thread are interesting and seem to help with the design flaws though. I think it comes down to whether or not this thing works better than a trash can separator when using an existing DC unit.

I am interested in adding some sort of separator as well. My DC is in the loft over my garage and emptying the thing is a pain. I'd like to add some kind of separator on the lower floor right before the duct goes up through the ceiling.

I read that too but, but I can't seem to see what the big differences are when Andy added the neutral vane.
