View Full Version : Rust Eaters - all that filler material.

I like the results from using the "rust eater" type of compounds that turn rust into a black paintable finish. But the jars seem to be about 2/3 filler material the becomes semi-solid and sinks to the bottom. If I take the trouble to stir up this material then it leaves lumps in the finish that are rather like blobs of plastic wood. The directions say not to sand the surface much after application. Is there a brand of this product that does not have the filler in it?

Over the course of owning and working on a couple of classic cars, I always used the product by Eastwood, and never experienced that problem. Not as cheap as what you get at the paint/auto parts store though.

This stuff works very well and not too expensive. Local company with great support. I have used this on a number of items with good results.

I bought some locktite stuff in a spray can that was supposed to do the job. I figured it'd be better because inside the can there is no Atmosphere which always ruins the whole container once you open it.

There were two companion products one was the converter and the other was just a lacquer. However, the cans were mislabeled and I only bought the can with the label saying it was the converter but was really just lacquer.
