I was wondering what you use to store your bowls while DNAing. Will a garbage can keep a good enough seal?

As far a the picture goes, I guess I should have watched all of David Lancaster's video on coring.

I use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid I picked up from the ace hardware store. It looks like a plastic, white paint container. 5 gallons.

Dennis Peacock gets credit for this idea. Take a garbage bag or leaf bag, put the rough-turned piece in it, "seat" it in a pile of shavings, fill with DNA till it covers the piece, and twist the bag shut. This is especially good for pieces that will not fit in a gallon or 5 gallon bucket.

You can watch all the vidoes you want, I doubt it will cause you to never ruin a piece by coring it.
I usually have pretty good sucess rate but I still kill one from time to time.

I and several turner's I know use a Crab Bait Container. It is 19" dia. and will hold 17 gallons and has a sealable lid. I got mine from that auction place that begins with an E. Can't remember the name of the storefront but just do a search. Seems like I paid about $30 including shipping.

Pete I went to Wal-Mart and got a deep tote. I put some foam weather stripping around the edge. Hasn't been a problem and it is cheap.

I have to say, that sounds like a house fire waiting to happen. If somebody does this, I hope they leave it out in the back 40.

I just received my crab bait container, $22 shipped from the 'bay. It looks like a great solution for all the drying blanks on my shelf that won't fit in my current container. Thanks for the great tips everyone!:D

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the storage containers for DNA. I wonder what place makes them because I can find any of them listed on the "bay." I think that locking ring would be good to seal the lid.

Thanks,

Jeff

Haven't used it yet, but I have an old laundry detergent bucket ready for action, looks like maybe 2-gallons max. My daughter uses one as a camp stool, as well.

Here's another vote for the 5-gal bucket.
