This is a 10 min. mode that will really make it nice when putting the fence back on the rails. It is very easy and takes all over about 10 min.

See image below.

I used a spiral pin, a small bolt and nut could be used. Drill a hold in the angle for pin, it has to be hammered in. Drill a hole in the locking plate just a little larger then the pin.

Install the pin, put the lock plate back on and that's it.
It goes on really easy now and you will not have to fiddle with the lock plate.

Ok. You got my curiosity up:)

My fence is about four years old.
I have no problems removing/installing it.

You never have the lock plate turn on you and have to fiddle with it to get it square with the channel?

They may have change it a little, when I go to put the fence back on the lock plate will catch the edge of the channel and I will then have to turn it a little to get it to line up.

My Mule fence hangs-up too.

Nice fix!

I was thinking of rounding the sharp corners off on the plate, making it oval instead of rectangular, so that it would adjust itself as I slid it onto the rails.

I also haven't had any trouble removing and installing my Mulecab fence. I've likely just been lucky. Dollars to doughnuts, next time I try it I'll be fumbling for ten minutes. Then I'll install your modification, Bill. Thanks.

Just got an email from John at Mule and he liked it, may add it in the future.
I sent the image and the way I did it.

I think its funny that some of have the problem and other don't, I wonder if they used different bolts at different times.

Now that you mention exactly what it is for.....

Yes. I've fumbled some when installing mine.
Very seldom do I remove the fence, so I've forgotten that.
Great idea!!

I just sent them a email yesterday, asking about the shrinking vinyl tapes they use.
They are sending me a new one.

Whoa! What's the scoop on the shrinking tape, Steve? Is it obvious if the tape is shrinking? Or, will I have to check it against a tape measure for errors?

It used to be accurate. For several years.
Now is seems to change seasonaly.

I was getting some miscuts, wide ones, off a 1/16th.
So I reset the fence indicator.
I slide it up close to the blade, and there that 1/16th off again shows up.

Got a new tape installed yesterday.

Same problem.....

Guess I'll be hunting down a steel rule to replace it with.

48" long, 1" wide. Something thin.

Anyone know of a source?

Woodcraft has a 40" but that's not quite gonna cut it I don't think:

Fastcap offers a peel and stick that is akin to their Flatback tape but I believe it only goes to 1/16's.

P.s. Steve, your homepage link under your profile takes me here: http://www.s8.createphpbb.com/js/index.php?mforum=js Is that right?
