LOML has given the OK for a bandsaw (my first) once I get my bonus next month. I am considering Grizzly's GO555X 14" bandsaw and The Rikon 10-325. I have read reviews of the Rikon, but nothing about the Grizz. Does anyone have any experience with it? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the G0555 for my first bandsaw as well. I really liked it and it worked VERY hard for me. I put the riser on it first thing (ordered with the saw) and ws glad to have that capacity. It was limited, however, to the blade size and it was a little light on power when I needed to resaw full 11" and 12" material. The Rikon looks to be a little heavier duty saw.

While I have NO complaints with the G0555, I would have gone with the 10-325 if I had to do it again (I don't know if it ws available when I bought my G0555). It has the taller resaw capacity WITHOUT the hassle of a riser and it has a two year warranty.

Of course, you COULD just jump in with both feet and get a MM16. I absolutely love mine and there are many here who feel the same way. :D :D :D

Dick, where are you? It looks like the factory stores are having a tent sale. You might check one out..............

Having owned (and still do) the Go555 and done a lot of cutting with the Rikon "Super 14'", which cuts 13 on re-saw, I"d prefer to have the Rikon. Just can't justify the cost of a new BS right now. Wouldn't get that much out of the used Grizzly.

Dick... Ralph above just bought the griz g0457. I have this saw as well and it is excellent. I would recommend it over the g0555. Not as much resaw height as the Rikon, but a very good value. You cant beat Grizzly for quality and customer service. You will be very happy with a Grizzly bandsaw.

Dick,

I have the 555X. It's a very different beast than the 555. Though it would be nice to have a big ole 18" or something, there's no way to get a bigger saw into my shop. I love the tool and would buy it again. Here's my mini-reveiw: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=56894&highlight=g0555x

One more thing....

Recently I read somewhere that with a properly tuned saw and the right blade you should be able to resaw 1/16" veneer.

Well, with a 3/8" Timerberwolf blade (the wrong blade for resawing), a tuned 555X, and some practice, I can resaw 0.020" veneer! LOML thinks I'm nuts every time I come out with another, thinner, piece of veneer. But it's amazing - and fun - to see what one can do.

I just finished putting the G0457 together, and have not done any tuning, but I am very impressed. It passed the "nickel test" as is.

After I get the setup and tuning done, I really want to cut something and see how much it outperforms my old 14inch import.

PS The G0555X and the G0457 are both on sale.

I have the g0457 and a Ridgid 14" bandsaw. The Ridgid is 3/4 horse and the Griz is 2hp. I was cutting a purpleheart turtle box the other day and the Ridgid would just groan and not cut, so I switched to the 457 and it didnt even slow down. The Griz just powers through anything I can throw at it. Of course, its not a fair comparison, but 2 horsepower is wonderful. I have resawn 10" walnut and hard maple with great results.
