This is a desk I just built for my son's room to put his new computer on. It is constructed with birch plywood and maple trim strips. Size is 4' X 7'.
He is very pleased with it! (And loves his computer)

That's a very kewel setup, Sparky! I can see why your son likes it. What's more, it's "real furniture"...I like that. Great job!!

Sparky,
What happen to the brick and boards we grew up with????Kids are spoiled these days. ;)
Very nice job. I think that's what our children need is a little more spoiling with hand crafted gifts. Nice Job

Thanks Guys for the nice comments. This isn't my best work but I think that it came out fairly well. Now that it's finished I can get back to playing with my new lathe.

Wow, really nice!

How did you execute the smooth curve on the bottom? The curved panel treatment looks great.

Kevin

I built up the base kind of like a wall. I took some 2x12 yellow pine and cut some 2.5" wide arcs out of them. I then attached some straight pieces to the end of them and some vertical pieces between them. I then sheeted them with 1/4" birch on the outside and 1/4" sandply on the inside leaving the sandply about 5" short of the top which with some holes in the vertical pieces created a wire channel for all the cables. I then ripped some maple strips to put over the screws that I attached the ply with which created the panel look. I kind of made up the design as I went along.
