I posted earlier about some really bad vibrations (my new Shop Fox W1741 8" jointer was walking across the shop floor when running). I thought for sure I was in for a huge undertaking to fix the problem....out of round pulleys, poorly mounted cutterhead....I expected the worst.

What was it? A poorly manufactured belt. Fixed it less than 5 minutes.

Running smooth as silk - even passes the nickel test.

Thanks for all the advice - I'm glad I didn't have to use it!

It's amazinf sometimes how something so simple can cause us such problems. It's nice to hear about your "solution" and I'm glad it wasn't serious.

I had a suspicion it was the belt or pulley.

A friend gave me his PM 56 jointer and it did the same thing. He said he hadnt used it in a long time. I took the belt off and it was not soft anymore.... it had hard bends where the pulleys were for so long. A new belt and problem solved. Wish I had read this before trying to figure it out on my own.
