I went to my oncologist today to get the results of my CAT scan I had taken on Monday. No change was found as far as the lung cancer goes - still in remission.

Now the bad news. The CAT scan revealed a rather large abdominal aortic aneurysm present which is scary. I have an appointment Tuesday with a specialist and I am may have to have surgery to correct the situation. Research I did on the web indicate a 4 to 7 day hospital stay and 2 to 3 months for a complete recovery. I will find out Tuesday what the treatment will be.

All I have to say at this point is "PooPoo Happens"

Hang in there, Ken. I'm sure this will all be just one more little bump on your very long life road. Although, hospitals are sure no damn fun. Maybe you can buy a portable DVD player and watch New Yankee Workshop, Wood Works, or whatever you like. There never seems to be anything worth watching on hospital TV's.

The best news is that they found it so that they can make the first move in repairing it. Man, your backside must be getting sore from all the resting you should have been doing! Hope this gets you back in the shop come fall weather!! Glad to hear the news on the lungs. Jim.

Ken, apparently you have come out of retirement...to be a professional in the medical world! :D Seriously, I'm glad that the cancer is staying at bay and hope that the docs can quickly deal with this latest issue. No fun, I know...and the tool thing bites, too. Hang in there!

Well, we're still pulling and praying for you, Ken! I'm glad the docs caught the aneurysm before it popped. I hope the surgery goes well for you and you have a quick recovery.

So, are you going to ask for a Bud Light infusion while you're under for the surgery? :D

Wow. The silent killer. Do you have any idea how lucky you are that they found it? I think the odds are nearly as good as winning the lottery.

Whatever you do, make certain the general knows that you are in remission. He may detour a little bit to get a look at your lungs. It can't hurt!

Ken,
About 7 years ago my father had that surgery, and as far as the AAA goes, he recovered quickly. He has COPD, however and that caused him to spend a month in the ICU. Long story, to sum up, he's still here doing just great. In fact I just got back from a trip to Virginia, where my parents just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary!

My mom is a 19 year ovarian cancer survivor, so keep your spirits up on that front as well!

This sounds like a minor challenge to what you have already gone through. Keep up the same possitive attitude that you have so corageously displayed for all here before.
My thoughts and prayers your way.

This is the first time I've heard of your medical problems Ken. So glad to hear its in remission. My mother just went thru breast and lung cancer as well. They were going to cut out about 1/3 of her lung before she was told about Proton therapy at the premier cancer facility in the US. (Loma Linda)They have the best record of any treatment plan. And best of all, it only affects the cancer, not surrounding tissue. Her cancer was GONE in 3 months after treatment, with no side effects or pain on her part. Anyways, you probably wont need this link, but others reading this may. (I have known 2 men who were treated for prostate cancer as well there, with no side effects, and they were playing golf everyday between treatments!)

Also, will be praying for a speedy recovery.
