Carroll, If you want the raw stock, ASAP Source/Alro Metals Plus (http://www.asapsource.com) in Ann Arbor, Michigan has 5/16x3/4x72" 6061 aluminum for $14.34. They are local to me so I don't know what their shipping is like.

I tried to link directly to the listing, but couldn't. If you go to their site and click Rectangle/Flat on the menu, then choose Aluminum, then choose 6061 and scroll down about 1/2 way you will find it. It is listed as "--- BUYOUT --- 5/16" X 3/4" RECT 6061-T6511 ALUM 72" PRE-CUT"

McMaster Carr, and for small pieces, I've found it sometimes cheaper to get them from the bay. (ebay)

Locally, things like that are harder to find, except for some higher dollar speciallty stores.

Why aluminum? It's only 1/3 as stiff as steel.

That that might not be an issue in your appliction, but it is if you're trying to make a wide crosscut with your miter gauge hanging off the back of your TS.

I have order dimensional steel and aluminum bar stock from MSC industrial. A google search should pop them up. The prices weren't all that bad but shipping was next day normally.

Onlinemetals.com stocks 3/4 aluminum in both 0.250 and 0.375 for $1.21, and $1.81 per foot respectively. No 5/16 thick though. I priced buying some for runners for jigs last week. They offer 10% off $100 or more, so it makes sense to buy up a bunch at one time. Ten percent off, offsets shipping.
