Amazon is making me nervous clearing out all this heavy duty woodworking equipment. Today (Monday) they have the 28-682 18" 2 hp bandsaw for $698. They do get you for $149 shipping.

Many of the BIG delta tools are back to normal prices today. They must be moving through them in waves.

Should get the BIG planer today.

I just checked and the 18" Bandsaw is still $698.22. I don't know anyone with one nor read any reviews, but that is an extremely low price! If someone pulls the trigger, please post.

The 3/4 hp 16.5" DP is also listing at the low price of $285.00 + $149 shipping. This is not the best price of late, though. It was $385.00 with free shipping a few months ago. I came this close to buying it then.

I don't think it's a clearance per se. I think they are making a lot of the money back on the $149 shipping - at least $60, probably more.

I pulled the trigger on the Delta 28-682 Bandsaw for $698 today (Wednesday). I went a little crazy on Amazon this week. Also got the Powermatic 27 5HP Shaper for $1550 (regular $2899). I will report back when it comes in.

I dunno, seems like a bargain for something that's 6 feet tall and weighs 500 lb. heck I just sent a microwave to FL from the ATL and that cost over 40 bucks.

Didn't anyone read the reviews... on Amazon... about that saw?

I did! I didn't buy one! But, it also seams like there was some pretty good comments on that saw in this forum, not too long ago. Maybe at that price it is worth it.

Paul,

I don’t know. There were some serious complaints over there.

I’m not trying to J.K. the thread. Seriously. <smile>

Edit: Yep, my memory serves! Enter “Troll” into the Search feature on this forum, and the initials “J.K.” will become evident.

I think some of the negative reviews compared the Delta to some of the new offerings that were priced below the Delta's retail price.

However, at this price, there really isn't anything in the market.

My friend has one he paid $1100 for. He has no regrets at all. He mostly turns wood but I've never seen any drawback to the saw. For $698 it is a no brainer. Even with a new set of guides you are going to be happy with the machine at that price.

i have one of these delta band saws. i paid $900 for it a few years back. it is not a bad bs but its not great either. it does have some very heavy cast iron wheels and a nice tension release which is good but the guides are pretty crude :( i dont believe carter makes after market guides either. i think if new guides could be found the saw would be much much better.

I also have this saw, I did the review on amazon under "EvilTwin". There are aftermarket guides from carter available for it and they make a world of difference. I also posted a review here on Sawmill creek when I got the saw.

With the shipping it puts the saw around 850 delivered. Thats better than what I paid for it for sure. For me its been a good saw and I've had it over 2 years closer to 3. I'm not sure if they have done anything with the original guides. Compare it to the griz saws in that price range and decide. I dont know where Delta support is these days, it used to be top notch, but I havent needed it in a while.

bob so those carter guides are worth the money? i called and they have the carter 2400 guides with mounting hardware costing $180 :(

so do they mount well? what about adjustments? it really stinks in that the delta came with ball bearing guides but they are so LOUD and the adjustments are so poor.

Yes, I think they are worth the money. The retrofit kit includes the guides and the upper and lower mounts. The upper mount is also what the blade guard mounts to and that is what needed work when I was evaluating the prototype for carter. They ended up sending me a second version which was much closer to what was needed than the first. I still had to do some drilling on the mounts for the blade guide and I think I painted it black to match the guard. The lower guard is much simpler which I think you can see in the photos I posted. When I got the kit, I got a discount for being a guinea pig for carter, probably saved about 50 bucks but I did provide them quite a bit of feedback on it so it wasn't quite a freebie. The carter guides are very nice, easy to adjust and of course high quality. If you have the saw and are intending on keeping it, I would probably spring for the upgrade unless you have access to a machine shop where they could build it for you for a box of donuts (boy do I miss my old job):)
