Dyed and burned Maple

Something a little different. I'm not sure what you would call this? :confused:
I got to playing around in the shop and didn't really have anything in mind while turning it. Outside is dyed with red dye, the lip is branded and the inside left natural. 6" by 6", buffed Antique oil finish.

Travis - you are right, this is a little different for you.

I like the simplicity of the form and the way the dye enhances the grain. The burned braid helps to highlight the separation between interior/exterior and actually brings out the natural color of the interior.

I really like the color combination here... and the burned rim does a fine job of joining them together.

I like it. I try a couple piece this shape back a couple months ago. As you know this hard to get your bevel to ride on a steep wall like that. My thought is next try I'll use the captured rig and the hollowing tools. Just curious how you turned the interior of this piece.

What kind of dye did you use? I have never dyed anything but I have some sycamore that I think might lend itself to some decoration.

Frank, yup, I used the hollowing rig for the inside. This Maple was a little punky, so I switched over to my 1 1/4" bar for the final scraping passes. ;)
Dick, I use the Artisan brand dyes from Craft Supplies.

Cool piece... it definitely is a little out of the norm for you, but I really like it! Has a cool shape and some nice coloring efects with the dye and burnt rim! Great job!
