Finally finished a curio type cabinet for my wife.. It's made from a wood called African Makore along with some curly maple and some pre-cut inlays. Basic cope and stick construction.... two coats of sealer and two coats of gloss poly..
Thanks for looking...

That is beautiful and the inlay really sets it apart from ordinary. Thank you for sharing.

Very nice work!! I also am intrigued by the inlay/design around the base of the unit. Nice!

Beautiful Rich, and that inlay makes it one of a kind. You have created a family heirloom.

Am I not seeing it properly, or is the "inlay" actually on the outside of the piece? It's a stunning cabinet. I'm just wondering if the decorative detail is on the outside, is still considered an inlay? :)

Thank everyone for the nice comments...
Pat,
the inlay is actually recessed... I routed out a strip around the unit equal to the thickness of the piece...

OK, I see it now. Thanks.
That Makore is beautiful. Did you find a good deal on it, or did you choose it purely for the look? Either way, I think it was a good choice.

Very nice job Rich. Its a nice timber, but did you find it brittle?
I have also known a few people to get dermatitis from it. Did you find the dust makes you sneeze?

Pat,
I don't think there are any good deals on lumber where I live in South West Florida. The Makore wasn't cheap but it caught my wifes eye so the decision was easy.
Tim,
the lumber worked pretty well.. I didn't think it was particularly brittle but you are right about the sneezing... even thought I wore a mask it was some miserable stuff. I didn't have any problem with skin irritation just the nose....
