I acquired a Stanley 150 year anniversary dovetail saw and have been looking for history on Stanley R & L's production of handsaws. I was surprised to see an absence of info in John Walter's book on Stanley tools. That got me wondering if they made saws that had their name on them or did some other company like Diston make them for them? If so, what the heck are they doing producing one for their 150 years collector set and issuing a so called certificate of authenticity.

My impression is that Stanly bought Disston in or about 1970 or so, and did not make hand saws prior to that.

Phil,
the 150 Anniversary stuff is very collectable, especially with the certificate..all are limited editions made only one year and some were also presentation pieces..still have the box also?

there are plenty of Stanley saws out there but generally not collectable and not held in high regard for quality...so it goes...
