I want the 17 inch grizzly.I cant afford right now.Currently I dont have one.I sold my tabletop.
Im also looking at the 14" rikon.
My question is I just came across a Jet 14" closed stand 1hp without a riser block. Its was purchased in 98 or 99. Its has light use. He said something about the table was loose underneath so he created a block out of some material that bowling alleys use.
So its 9rs old. New ones are 489-550 He wants 300. I was thinking about offering him a bit less like 250.
Is this a good saw, being that old? Im aware the more HP the better for resawing.
Im also aware that I will have to sink a few hundred into it for riser block, blades and carter guides but at least not right away.

Thanks

Nobody has a 14" jet? If not I guess that would be a good indication to not buy.
I know I have asked a fair amount of questions but someone in the know I hope can respondi. As I do when I can chime in with my 2 cents:D

Craig,
A guy was selling a Jet 14" closed stand with 1HP, no riser block, plus mobile base, on craigslist in Phoenix 3 days ago, for $250. It was 2 years old. I called to go buy it, but a guy had just snagged it the hour before. I saw another of the same sort, 4-5 years old, for 300 last week.

It is a nice 14", and the Fine WoodWorking tool review last year stated that they would buy EITHER the Delta OR the Jet 14" closed base BS, whichever one went on sale or had a good deal, in the 500-600 price range.

I have a similar Jet 14" BS, but newer vintage. Purchased in 2003 on sale because it was "last year's" model, believe I paid around $400 including fence. I can't speak to the 98-99 vintage, but if its similar to mine its a fine bandsaw. I think $250 seems a reasonable offer for the used one.

Good Luck.
