You may remember the elliptical stairs we built back in Feb;

We finially got the railings completed, and I thought you would like to see them.
Mahogany rails, oil rubbed copper balusters;

Outstanding job. How do you make a railing in that shape? Is it laminated and bent to shape on a form?

Yes Mike, I built a form for the stair stringer and was able to use the same form for the rails. 20 laminations glued together and then a hand rail router rides down the rail to cut the profile.

Another beauty. Nice shots of you and Junior (?) covered in dust too.

Where can you get away with making the stairs in Feb and doing the rails in May? New house or complete renovation?

When all your work is consistently of this caliber, words like outstanding and great become the norm. That leaves me speechless unless you don't mind me mimicing everyone else. That is truly outstanding work.

You mentioned a 'rail router', do you have any pics of it in operation? Sounds interesting. Any pics of your processes would be appreciated.

Thanks for sharing!! -- Kevin

Wow! I couldn't build that even if I had access to a 3D CAD program and a half dozen machinists standing in front of a 5-axis milling machine.

I'm assuming your desire to pay the bills is the only reason why you would part with worksmanship like that! Otherwise, I'd tell the customer that they can't have it :p .

Well done (again),
Jeff :)

Looks great, Richard. I was wondering what became of this staircase you posted way back when. How many hours did this one consume?

Any chance you could post a picture of your router and jig you used for the railing?

You should send some pics of this staircase to Tauton Press for their next revision of "Stairs".

That is some incredible work! I bet you have 1000's of clamps in your shop.:D It's a good thing that there's no such thing as too many clamps.:)
