Question for Multimaster owners: The Multimaster is available in single speed or variable speed. Is variable speed useful? I'm looking at using it for mostly sanding, or trimming wood.

I have the variable speed and I do change the speed as required for sanding and cutting...

I use the variable speed...AND FWIW...I think this tool rates right up near the top for doing remodeling/repair. I can't tell you how many times I've found a use that justified it's expense.

I just ordered the variable speed model. Thanks for the help.

Varable speed is the way to go. I use it all the time. Sometimes you want to also run the saws slower. The only thing to consider is you said you want it for sanding wood. It does a back and forth pattern not a ros pattern and is a bit aggrissave. It tends to leave marks. I am looking into the small fest sander now with the triangle pad sonce that is a small ros. but for one tool this is grate and well constructed.
