Small chunk of madrone burl that I got recently off e-bay... it was boiled dry by the seller (yes, boiled ;) )... seems to have worked pretty good as it appears very stable. It ended up 5" x 3" and I burned the rim - nothing remarkable about that, just adding some color/contrast to an otherwise plain opening.

Comments/critiques welcomed.

Very nice color on that stuff...and a fine form!

But...you got to miss the "it moves" moments usually associated with Madrone... :D Bendy-bendy stuff normally!

Mark;

Nice job. Jim is right, madrone is very very "bendy". For many years it was a major source of firewood for us for I used to turn a lot of green thin wall pieces and then put it in the microwave to dry out. You can shape it quite easily when it was warm. I tried but was never able to do a normal rough out air dried bowl because it would always crack and we didn't know about DNA at the time.

Keep em comming.

Kim/Jim... I have actually turned a couple of small wet/green pieces of Madrone burl... and yes, they moved a LOT! I roughed both of them and then did the DNA routine. They still moved a lot, but didn't crack/split any. After I finish turned them they have both been very stable.

This small chunk was boiled by the person I purchased it from. It was very dry and so far hasn't moved any on me (not that is noticeable, anyway).

Thanks!

Beautiful piece Mark. The burning adds just the right amount of decoration on the rim in my opinion. Enhances without over powering the form.
