Hi,

This is a Junior Emperor roller ball pen. The body is ebony.

This is a piece given to me by a friend who is a plane maker, the ebony is 80 years old. The wood was not finished with anything but wax, It will be a joy to see this one age with use.

They say there are 2 types of Ebony Pens:

1. Those that have cracked.

2. Those that will crack.

I hope the wood being 80 years old might help. I made a few ebony pens and with time, they both fell into either type 1 or 2 above.

I switched to Blackwood and have had no trouble.

I am not sure who "They" are above but for your pen I hope they are wrong.

I Know Pete,

My first ebony pen was a #2 within a week. When I was speaking with my friend who had this old ebony he passed along a few seasoned scraps. I have turned 3 pens from this wood, two last fall. At this point all three are in great condition....we will see.

Beautiful pen Jim, I love those Emporers. The ebony and black titanium are perfect together.
